A Nairobi traffic policeman has been fined Sh1 million and one year in jail in default for obtaining a bribe of Sh5,250 from PSV operators.
Dan Mburu was fined Sh500,000 for the offence and for abuse of office when he appeared before chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti of the Anti-corruption court.
Mburu was based under the sub traffic base at the Makongeni police station and obtained the cash at Muthurwa.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission said the officer was arrested in a sting operation along Muthurwa Access Road on November 9 last year.
EACC said in a statement on Thursday that Mburu is notorious for harassing matatus crew plying city routes while demanding for bribes.
“He was notorious for demanding and receiving bribes from PSVs as an inducement and to overlook traffic offences.”
